The module will cover various issues related to the creation, exploitation and legal protection of IP assets within the creative industries, and the impact of this protection on such industries. The list of covered topics includes the following:  
<ul><li>Overview of copyright regulation of creative works in the screen industries and performing arts   </li></ul>
<ul><li>Copyright issues in a collaborative medium such as theatre, film, music and television  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Online games market – IP in the context of relationships between producers, publishers and platforms  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Visual effects - Patent protection and “softer” forms of IP protection (such as trade secrets or confidentiality clauses)    </li></ul>
<ul><li>Copyright and music  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Copyright and artificial intelligence   </li></ul>
<ul><li>Copyright, trademarks and patents in the metaverse  </li></ul>
<ul><li>The IP of creative works and streaming services  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Copyright of interdisciplinary works, i.e. works adapted from one medium to another e.g. theatre to film. </li></ul>

Feedback is provided in a number of ways throughout your module. This includes feedback you receive during teaching from both peers and lecturers and that provided for formative assessment. Following an assessment, you will be given your marks and feedback in line with the assessment regulations and policy. Following the supportive and coherent blended learning design of this programme, teaching will be core to your learning, to help you develop a proper understanding of relevant legal knowledge and ensure you are able to perform relevant skills. The module is taught through a series of lectures to present core material and case studies, and will include discussion of topics, student presentations and, sometimes, skills-based work.

For each week you will find in Moodle an outline of the topics to be covered in classes, with a list of reading material, links to other sources to be completed in advance of the relevant class.   
  
You will be told what to prepare for each class, which may include questions for discussion, scenarios to consider, or a specific task that may include some written work or preparing a presentation.   
  
It is very important that you develop self-directed learning skills. You will be expected to complete set reading and preparation prior to each class, and to be ready to engage fully in class discussion and activities.  
  
After class, there may be consolidation work, further guidance on the topics covered, sample documents, and/or further reading for you to follow up topics of particular interest.      
   
There will be an opportunity for formative feedback on a piece of work – you should make best use of this to prepare for assessment. You will also be able to get other feedback from your tutor and from other students as part of work in class.  
   
Your learning will also be supported in other ways including a range of talks by practitioners and other experts provided by the university and Bayes Business School.
