This module runs through the entirety of your degree, supporting you to develop the skills and attributes you will need to carry out your academic work and plan for your future career. It will cover such topics as:  
<ul><li>Fundamentals of problem definition and problem solving </li><li>Understanding companies’ specific needs and mapping companies’ special characteristics </li><li>Goal setting &amp; project planning </li><li>Research methods: looking at different ways of collecting and analysing data to operationalise research aims.  </li><li>Synthesizing findings &amp; developing recommendations </li><li>Discussion of solution(s) with companies </li><li>Research writing and presentation: looking at how to structure and write papers and reports and present your findings effectively.  </li></ul>

Feedback is provided in a number of ways throughout your module. This includes feedback you receive during teaching from both peers and lecturers and that provided for formative assessment. Following an assessment, you will be given your marks and feedback in line with the assessment regulations and policy. The Entrepreneurial Advisor module relies on selected chapters, relevant articles and lecture notes (made available on Moodle). You will also apply and integrate knowledge acquired in previous modules (term 1 and 2) in order to analyse and solve real-world problems.

This module will be delivered through a mix of online and classroom activities throughout the year, supplemented by the preparation time for each class (readings, case study preparation and assignments). It is highly experiential, and you are encouraged to fully engage with the content and skills it delivers in support of your own learning and professional development.

Contact hours are designed to be flexible and are delivered using a variety of methods to help you learn in the most effective way. A proportion of the core content will be delivered online and additional support materials and content will also be made available through Moodle.

Conduct a successful consultancy project - during the project you will learn a range of skills relating to consultancy e.g., building rapport with your client; adapting to the client requirements; data collection and analysis; negotiation skills; making practical recommendations, diagnosing issues, provision of deliverables / solutions. 

Skills

Develop close relationships with the cooperating companies and improve your ability to present analyses of issues and organizational problems in a concise, accurate, clear and interesting manner from the perspective of a consultant 

Develop your research and project-management skills  

Recognise and assess a variety of processes and interventions involved in the management-consulting arena. 

Knowledge

Critically evaluate the issues and practices surrounding the use of pre-existing research materials, assessing how different sources and types of data might influence your understanding of a topic.  

Apply your MSc learning to assess real business development issues of SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises)  

Show an appreciation of the influential nature of clearly reported data and its potential impact.  

Recognise the value of taking an ethical approach, behaving with honesty and integrity with respect to undertaking consultancy work and using research data.  

Operationalise research (project) aims, collect and analyse data through a variety of research methodologies, and create effective reports (for clients).
