<ul><li>Flight and handling qualities.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Spiral and Dutch roll modes. Phugoid and short period oscillatory motions. Automatic flight control systems.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Transfer functions and State Space representations.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Primary radar, secondary surveillance radar (SSR), radar-range equation and basic radar principles. Moving Target Indicating (MTI) Radars, CWFM radars, altimeters. Automatic Direction Finders (ADF).</li></ul>
<ul><li>Flight control systems including autopilot.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>Instrumental landing Systems (ILS) and Microwave Landing Systems (MLS). Hyperbolic Navigation Systems: Decca, Loran C and Omega navigation systems. Global Positioning System (GPS).</li></ul>

You will learn using a combination of activities. Scheduled lectures will over the theoretical aspects. These are relatively formal in style and will be presented to the whole student group. The lectures will also present examples of the provided theory. The module contains weekly tutorials, and you will have the opportunity to work on problems and exercises connected to the concepts introduced in the lectures. The material covered on each week’s lecture and tutorial will be available in Moodle and ready for you to download.   
In addition to this, there will be a series of lab session in which you will be organised into groups, and will have the opportunity to put into practice the concepts learnt in the lectures by designing a feedback controller that will be tested in the flight simulator. 
In addition to the taught elements of the module, there will be the need for private study time. Apart from background reading, revision of notes and work on tutorial exercises, a weekly self-assessment quiz will be available in Moodle to help you evaluate your learning outcomes (self-assessment quizzes are purely formative activities and will not be counted towards the module’s final mark).
