<ul><li>You will learn how to safely perform a range of clinical assessments and procedures.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>You will consider how to communicate the findings of your assessments to patients/service users and colleagues, and how to use these to create person-centred care plans.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>You will develop an understanding of how to appropriately escalate concerns, in terms of physical and mental health and safeguarding and risk considerations.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>You will learn how to apply the NMC Code (2018) to your clinical practice.  </li></ul>
<ul><li>You will develop these skills to a level of safe practice for a Part 2 student nurse for your chosen field of practice. </li></ul>

Feedback is provided in a number of ways throughout your module. This includes feedback you receive during teaching from both peers and lecturers and that provided for formative assessment. Following an assessment, you will be given your marks and feedback in line with the assessment regulations and policy. HSM016 - Practice 2: Applying knowledge and skills for person-centred care in practice

To enable you to address your area of knowledge in relation to the learning outcomes, you will work within your field of nursing (Adult, Mental Health and Child nursing). 
 
The variety of teaching and learning methods used in this module will provide a safe environment for you to explore your own knowledge base, issues, worries and concerns.  
 
This module will be delivered using several different approaches. As an example, you may have a combination of in-person sessions (i.e., face-to-face on campus), and/or online synchronous sessions (participants are engaged at the same time online) and online asynchronous guided activities (you need to plan time to engage with these). These may include viewing recorded lectures and/or other online resources, reading materials, undertaking quizzes, completing exercises and engaging on forums.  
 
In addition to these teaching delivery approaches, you will undertake your own independent study, which may involve wider reading, research and preparation for assessment. Please see the Moodle page and programme handbook for further information. 
 
You will also undertake a variety of practice placements that may be virtual or project-based or set across a variety of healthcare settings in London, including NHS trusts, independent providers, voluntary organisations and the private sector.

*The number of learning hours exceed the normal calculation for student learning hours for a module due to PSRB requirements.

Practice 2: Applying knowledge and skills for person-centred care in practice

Confidently explain principles to safeguard and protect individuals and know how to act when there is a potential ‘cause for concern’.  

Knowledge

Undertake safe administration of medicines, in line with local and national policies. 

Skills

Recognise and critically discuss the rationale for evidence-based clinical skills.  

Communicate effectively using a range of different skills and share the findings of assessments to promptly escalate any concerns.   

Demonstrate reflexive and progressive awareness of how group experiences can influence practice. 

Demonstrate confidence and competence in performing a range of clinical skills using evidence-based research to support your practice. 

Work in accordance with the NMC Code (2018): professional standards of practice and demonstrate the professional behaviours and values expected from nurses.

Competently demonstrate a range of assessments to gather relevant information from patients, their families and carers to develop person-centred care plans.

Understand and be able to confidently explain the importance of local and national policies.
