The module consists of a concentrated block of consecutive newsdays in which students lead the creation of news and current affairs programmes across different formats and genres (for example, sport, entertainment or a magazine show). Students will rotate through leadership roles such as programme editor, presenter, producer and technical director, gaining experience of managing story conferences, shaping running orders, and leading live studio production. Alongside broadcast output, students will contribute to digital content designed to extend reach and engage audiences. Team performance is central, with an emphasis on collaboration, problem-solving, and sustaining professionalism under pressure.

Feedback is provided in a number of ways throughout your module. This includes feedback you receive during teaching from both peers and lecturers and that provided for formative assessment. Following an assessment, you will be given your marks and feedback in line with the assessment regulations and policy. JOM118 - ​Going Live​: Newsday Leadership and Delivery

Learning in this module is built around an intensive block of consecutive newsdays that replicate the realities of professional broadcast journalism. Unlike earlier modules, where learning progressed gradually across the term, here you will work in a sustained production period, taking on the full responsibility of planning and delivering programmes to broadcast-ready standards. 
You will rotate through leadership and team roles — such as editor, presenter, producer and technical director — with an emphasis on collaboration and accountability. These roles will require you to manage story conferences, develop running orders, oversee production, and make real-time editorial and technical decisions under deadline pressure. 
Lectures and workshops provide preparation and debriefing, covering advanced editorial judgement, compliance, leadership, and production strategies. Peer and tutor feedback will be embedded into each newsday, helping you to refine your practice across the block of productions. 
This intensive approach develops your resilience, adaptability and leadership capacity, ensuring you are able to contribute at industry level in live newsroom environments.

In-person – refers to where a student attends classes in a physical learning space. This will be supported by online learning resources that all students can access online. 
 
Synchronous online – refers to where a student attends classes online in real time with interaction between the lecturer and other students taking place online.  This will be supported by online learning resources that all students can access online asynchronously. 
Hybrid refers to where the student may have some flexibility in deciding their mode of attendance. The student may be able to choose to attend all or some of the lectures, seminars and support sessions online or in-person. In this mode, some students will be attending lectures and seminars online with others attending in-person. This mode of study will be delivered from a physical learning space and supported by online learning resources that all students can access online.  
 
Directed online study – refers to where a student is taking a fully online programme with specific activities and resources that students are directed to undertake asynchronously by the lecturer to meet the learning outcomes of the programme/module.
